SmokeRead Support

SmokeRead helps firefighters record their work for firefighter safety research and development. It records incidents, PPE equipment, passive smoke sampling results and your location during work.

Getting started

1. Download SmokeRead from the App Store.
2. Create an account with your email address and complete your firefighter profile.
3. Enter the verification code sent to your email. If you don't see it, check your spam or junk folder.
4. Sign in and review the location information screen.
5. To record location while the app is in the background, set location access to "Always" in your iPhone settings.

Location recording

• The home screen shows whether location recording is On, Paused or Off, and when the last location was recorded.
• Paused means location access is not set to "Always". Tap Open Settings on the home screen, then choose Location → Always.
• Recordings are saved on your phone and uploaded about every 15 minutes when you have an internet connection. Without a connection they are kept and uploaded later.
• Keep the app running in the background. If you close it from the app switcher, recording may stop until you open the app again.
• To stop recording, turn it off in Settings → GPS Preferences, or change location access in your iPhone settings.

Common questions

I didn't receive the verification email.
Check your spam or junk folder, and make sure you entered the correct email address.

I can't sign in.
Check your email and password, and make sure you have an internet connection. If you forgot your password, email us and we will help you reset it.

How do I delete my account?
Open the app's settings and choose the delete-account option. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data on our servers.
